Where to stay and how to get there
During my visit, I chose to stay in Interlaken, a charming town situated between two beautiful lakes, offering a perfect base for exploring the Jungfrau region. I personally stayed at a hostel, but there are numerous hotel options available to suit your preferences.
Getting there:
- Plane: For visitors heading to Interlaken, Bern is the most convenient airport to fly into. From Bern, transportation options include renting a car, taking a train, or catching a bus.
However, it's worth noting that while Bern is the closest airport, it may not always offer the most budget-friendly flights. Alternative airports to consider are Zurich and Geneva airports, both of which provide viable options for reaching Interlaken.
- Bus: Taking the bus is undoubtedly one of the most economical ways to travel between destinations across Europe, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. While it may take a bit longer compared to other modes of transportation, it's a great choice for those looking to save on costs.
- Train: (My choice) Trains present a fantastic alternative to flying when traveling to Interlaken from other European cities. The high-speed rail network across major European cities facilitates convenient and relatively speedy travel between countries.
Regardless of the major city you arrive in, connecting trains to Interlaken is needed.
How to get around
Unless you have a car, you will mostly be able to get around with either bus or train.
- Bus: If you're lodging in a hotel, B&B, or campsite in Interlaken for a duration of 3 days or more, your accommodation provider typically offers a complimentary travel card. This card grants you free access to the local bus network and discounts on a range of activities.
It's a valuable cost-saving benefit in Switzerland, especially considering the generally high expenses associated with most other aspects of travel in this region.
- Train:
In the Jungfrau region, traveling primarily revolves around an efficient and scenic train network. Trains are the lifeblood of transportation, seamlessly connecting the towns and villages within the region and offering breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps along the way.
